One of the best piano players to hit the Jazz circuit in a long time may not be from South Africa, but from Germany. Michael Wollny who was born on May 25, 1978 in Schweinfurt Germany. Is taking the international Jazz world by storm. HiS ALBUM Welentraum has received nothing but rave reviews. For this recording he received the German Jazz Gold award. And then the tour he followed up with it, the, “Karsten Jahnke Jazz Nights” tour was a sold out success at the Frankfurt Opera House.
Wellentraum has reached number one on the German Amazon and i-tunes jazz charts and he reigned supreme on the official German pop album charts. Wellentraum was an international breakthrough success for Michael Wollny and he has been on the march ever since with ever increasing complexity and styling’s.
He has become one of the European Jazz scenes most prolific performers. He has now moved on to creating his own jazz supergroup, the, “Michael Wollny Trio”. This powerhouse has Eric Shaefer on drums, an excellent percussionist who mixes classic rocka dn pop with jazz instrumentation. Along with the powerful rhythm section of Emma Kruse this is a trio to be reckoned with!
The song, “Engel” that this group produced is an absolute favorite and masterpiece. The German word for angel, “Engel” is truly an angelic piece that brings you in on a subconscious level starting out soft and then building in crescendo and pitch. Very moving work from this up and coming international artist and we look forward to more great things from Michael Wollny in the future.
